HP has not clearly stated to pre-order customers when exactly their new tablet will arrive. The company’s site now states that the HP Slate 500 is on back-order. There is no clear answer to when it will become available or when it will ship to pre-order customers. Customers are expected to have to wait til the end of 2010 to receive their tablet.
Currently it is rumored that this back-order is the result of a bug in the Slate 500 that makes it freeze up. The only way to fix this is with a full system reboot. Speculation states that this will give HP time to clear up the issue with Slate 500 in time for delivery.
Hp is coming out with their own tablet computer in the following weeks. The HP Slate 500, is loaded up with features such as a solid state hard drive, a capacitive touchscreen display, a front facing camera and the Windows 7 operating system. The question is at $800 how will it compete against the iPad? What if I told you they weren’t even competing against each other?
The fact of the matter is that the HP Slate 500 is built for a corporate environment. It offers the security and manageability of Windows 7, which allows for a smoother integration into the already developed Windows environment which just about all businesses are built on. The HP Slate 500 was not developed for entertainment purposes, although games, movies and music are always welcome. The Slate 500 was created for the business professional who is always traveling or wants to digitize their life by using it for all their notes and productivity. It could find a nice home within the healthcare field for doctors and nurses who need to streamline communication and organization during patient treatments. Also real estate agents and contractors could make good use of the portability and functionality of the HP Slate 500 by digitizing estimates and producing complete analysis on the spot. Inventory clerks and warehouse managers or anybody needing to manage their business will find the Slate to be a great asset and investment.
The iPad started the tablet revolution, but now it’s time to fill in the holes and gain a market that they never even targeted. In a few weeks all of us will be able to see the HP Slate 500 for ourselves and figure out how it best fits into our lives.
The buzz flying through out the Internet is that the new HP Slate 500 is set for release on November 16th. With a hefty $799 price tag it isnt exactly the cheapest tablet on the market but hopefully it lives up to our expectations. So far here is what we are dealing with (remember this is all speculation) :
- Genuine Windows 7
- Intel Atom Proccessor running at 1.86ghz
- 64 GB Solid State Memory
- 8.9 inmch LCD display
- High Def Audio - Integrated Speakers, Microphone and Web Cam
- Wireless Internet Connectivity
- (1) USB Power Connector (2) USB Plug-ins (1)HDMI Connector
- HP Slate Digi Pen
It also has some extra options like a docking station and a car charger. How exactly is the Slate going to compete against the iPad? Well we’re not exactly sure but the HP Slate does have one huge advantage that the iPad doesn’t, the ability to multitask. When using the iPad you have to close the current app you are using to open another. With the Slate, its just like using your home computer. You can open whatever your need to at the time and navigate through out your open programs. I really see that as one huge downfall the iPad has and one great addition the Slate has.
HP could have loaded it up with some inferor mobile OS but instead we get the great glory of Windows 7. November 16th will be the current release date and yes, pre-orders are available.

HP Hurricane WebOS
There have been plenty of rumors flying around lately that indicate the end of HP Slate. Sources are saying that HP cannot compete with Apple’s iPad and have decided to cut their losses by abandoning the project. Is it true? Or are they just abandoning windows 7 in favor of Palms WebOS?
HP has recently acquired Palm and what they are really paying for is the Palm WebOS platform which runs on their smartphones. HP says this move will help make their devices better connected and envisions their web enabled printers to run WebOS. They also mentioned that they would run this OS on slates. HP has already shown it’s Slate at the 2010 CES and have a several youtube videos as well as a webpage dedicated to latest news for its tablet pc.
The twist to this story is another rumor saying that HP has a replaced the slate with their new project called “Hurricane”. The HP Hurricane is a tablet computer that would run Palm’s WebOS and not Windows 7. Windows 7 was never optimized to run on tablet computers and Palm’s WebOS would probably be a better match for a tablet computer. Apple’s iPad runs a modified version of the iPhone OS so it would only make sense for HP to run a smartphone operating system on their tablet computer if they want to compete with Apple. If this does happen, the HP Hurricane is expected to be released in the third quarter of this year.

Looks like HP put a nice package together for their tablet computer, I think the only thing that really hurts them is the battery life. 5 hours is not enough for a portable device in my opinion, but this website is dedicated to accessories, so I am certain that the battery life issue has already been remedied and you will find your solution here on www.hpslateaccessories.com.
